Approach for infinite running of XSJS application

0

Hi Experts,

I'm trying to create an IOT application in SAP HANA Cloud platform trial account.

I'm trying  to develop a piece of code which always runs(once started) like a service to monitor the input messages from IOT devices and send output accordingly.

I thought of creating a .XSJS app and schedule it very frequently to mimic continuous running but XSJOB is restricted in trail HCP so this option is ruled out.

The other workaround I thought of is to create a .XSJS app with a infinite loop with a exit logic using some flag value in a table.

and this .xsjs app is triggered by a UI5 app.

My question is will this approach work? I want the XSJS app to run even if the UI5 user session is closed.

the .xsjs app should stop only when the flag value in the table is changed.

and if not please suggest me some approach.

also is this an ideal way to do things for this scenario?

Thanks

Re: DTP filter not working

Hi,

I wonder why the Exclusion tab in the DTP filter is missing.

As a work-around, I suggest to write a small ABAP routine to turn the "exclusion" selection into an "inclusion" selection.

Dear Experts,

I am trying to test the Trust Managment with all the HCP services, currently I have setup Trust Management with ADFS and its able to authenticate only JAVA Apps.

When I try with launch HCPms, HCP Portal, or WebIDE, I get Internal Error 503.

1. Can someone suggest is the Trust Mgmt available for all the services??

2. If yes, what might be missing? any additional configurations required?

Hi Manu,

You do not need an SAP BW system to fill the setup table. This activity can be done in the SAP ECC system.

Check out t/code SBIW and search for the path:

Settings for Application-Specific DataSources (PI) > Logistics > Managing Extract Structures > Initialization > Filling in the Setup Table > Application-Specific Setup of Statistical Data > Perform setup - Purchasing.

Re: SAP Business Objects Reporting vs SAPUI5

Hi Kristie,

This is an excellent question, but I guess it would be better to understand what can be replaced with UI5

I've recently started my UI5 training and the same question came to my head immediately after learning about the "analytics" in UI5. You know, I'm always looking for the architectural aspect of the solutions I provide to my clients

Although I'm very enthusiastic with UI5 (well, pretty much with any value added for my clients), I'm afraid to guess that, at least for now, there will be an overlap in addressing business requirements. We might need to find and assess the boundaries of each one of these solutions (UI5 & BOBJ)

One thing that you don't want to do, is to force a tool to perform tasks that are not natively designed to do

I am yet to find this out (actually working on it!), but I'm sure the answer will not be black or white, but something in between

BOBJ is very mature already, has some very cool features and is still on SAP's analytics roadmap. Again, although I am very enthusiastic about UI5, I doubt it will replace BOBJ. At least not for now

More to come

Foreign Exchange Revaluation- Bal in LC stands

Dear Experts;

For my client, below steps they have performed;

  1. Opened the bank account (in EUR). Three bank GL; One main, One Outgoing and one Incoming. All in EUR
  2. Post AR
  3. Post Incoming Payment.
  4. Realized Exchange Difference Posted, which is posted to an expense (PL) GL.
  5. BRS Entry posted via F-04
  6. System reverses the already posted 'Realized Forex' and posts the full Exchange Rate difference to 'Realized Forex' GL again.
  7. Month End- FAGL_FC_VAL run but no values posted, as there was no open item and no closing balance in Bank Main
  8. Create AP
  9. Payment to Vendor
  10. Realized Exchange Difference Posted, same GL as in Step 4.
  11. BRS Entry posted via F-04
  12. System reverses the already posted 'Realized Forex' and posts the full Exchange Rate difference to 'Realized Forex' GL again.
  13. Month End- FAGL_FC_VAL run,
  14. Exchange difference is posted to Unrealized Forex (PL) and Provision Gl (Balance Sheet Adj Ac)
  15. 1st of next month, reversal of Step 14 is posted.
  16. Balance in Main Bank is payed out to close the bank account. For this, expense JV posted where Exp (Debit) and Bank (Outgoing) - Credited
  17. BRS Entry posted via F-04
  18. Realized Exchange Difference Posted to same GL as in Step 4.

Now my question is, when bank account is closed in EUR, system still shows some value remaining in my Local Currency. This is not correct. Ideally, when a bank account is closed, it should show zero value in all currencies.

Please suggest, which step is missed (if any) or am I missing any configuration. For your understanding, in OB59, I am using the option "Exch. Rate Type from Invoice Reference'

Please suggest.

Thanks

Re: Write Variables in HCI not working.

Hi Swati,

I faced this problem before too.

In my case the expression in the Write Variable statement was not correct (or not filled at runtime). You'll only be able to see the stored variable in the store (via eclipse) if it really writes a value.

Unfortunately it seems not to fail if there's no value at run time.

Properties might be an alternative as Eng stated, but only if you don't need to share the value between Iflows globally (which is the variable for)

Hope that helps

With best regards

Re: Partitioned Info Cube error after migrating to BW on HANA

Hi,

Let me try to answer your questions.

Q1: What is the behavior of Standard Info Cube which have partitions and not converted to HANA Optimized in BW on HANA system ? Will the Info cube having same partitions as before after migrating to HANA data base?

A1. Database partitioning is database specific / dependent. It is not compatible with HANA.

Q2: As i said earlier If i remove partition then data loadings are working fine. If this is the solution what would be the impact of queries runtime and will there be any other impacts such as transformations/update rules become in active etc..

A2. HANA is en entirely different in-memory database optimized for performance. In most cases you do not need database partitioning.

SAP recently introduced "Dynamic range partitioning" (DRP) for the Advanced DSO (aDSO). More information can be found in SAP Note 2081135 - Enable "Dynamic Range Partitioning" feature for DataStore objects (advanced).

Q3: Another solution may be converting to HANA optmized which in turn deletes the partition while converting. But if i just convert info cubes to hana optimized which have 3.x flows we should also migrate data flows to 7.x flows . For info cubes which have already 7.x flows there will not be any impact if we migrate cubes to hana optmized.

A3. I do not recommend to any longer use the HANA optimized InfoCube. It has become obsolete. If you should migrate any InfoCube, then I suggest to use the aDSO.

You will have to also migrate the data flow to 7.0 which is highly recommended since 3.x data staging is obsolete technology.

Sander

Disable checkboxes dynamically

Hi,

There are checkboxes in the output as shown in the picture.

My question is:

As depicted in the picture, the selected checkboxes should be disabled for editing when the program is run through another transaction.

For ex:  in a movie booking site, wen an user logs in and books tickets,,

when other user tries to book seats, previous selected seats would be disabled.

How we can achieve this????

Re: Locating/Linking NWRFC libraries

Hi Rich,

well, this is a long post. I think I can answer some of the questions:

> Where is the proper place to install/find these libraries on SAP systems?

Originally, these libraries were meant for usage by external programs, so they were not shipped/installed with the SAP System. Users who needed them for their programs would have to download and install them. The place, where they are installed, does not matter, because in my opinion adding the lib directory of the SDK to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH should be part of that "installation process".

However, starting with SAP Kernel 7.40, the NW RFC libraries have now been added to the kernel, so they can indeed be found in the DIR_EXECUTABLE directory of the SAP system. Please note: note 1739797 is not about the NW RFC SDK or the SAP Kernel, it is about the Internet Graphics Server (IGS), which already required the NW RFC libs before Release 7.40, so made this "special solution" for IGS running on SAP Systems < 7.40.

I think this also answers the next two questions. Basically the simplest solution for you would be:

  • If running on a SAP system with Kernel 7.40 or higher, the libraries are already there and can be found in DIR_EXECUTABLE. (Note that the current "backward compatible kernel" used by all SAP systems of Release 7.4x is 7.42. So if the customer has not fallen too far behind with applying the regular kernel patch levels, you can expect the libraries to be there on all systems > 7.20.)
  • If running on an older SAP system (4.6D, 6.20, 6.40, 7.00, 7.20 - I don't expect any older systems to be still in use these days) or on a standalone server, your customer would have to download and extract the SDK as described in note 1025361, and add the lib subdirectory to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH. I think, if you document this clearly in the installation instructions of your product, it should not be too much of a problem andf you can take it for granted?!

One special comment regarding libicudecnumber: if your program does not process function modules that have parameters of type DECFLOAT, then you don't need this library. It is independent of the other libraries, so you also don't need to link it at all. (A bit of background: there are two DECFLOAT types, a 16bit and a 34bit version, originally introduced by IBM DB2. In one of the recent SAP Kernel releases it was also added as a new ABAP data type. As of today, only a very small number of applications use this type, and fewer still use it in an RFC interface. So most probably you won't need it.)

(PS: libicudecnumber.so is not shipped with the kernel. Aparrently none of the helper executable needs it, and the kernel has linked it statically. So if you do need to process DECNUMBER values, you will depend on the NW RFC SDK being installed separately on any host.)

> Are there linker options for "lazy" runtime binding?

I would expect that this is highly platform-dependent... In any case, the NW RFC lib doesn't have any special support for it (even if it would be possible on all platforms that we support).

> Unfortunately, our binary is setuid and that disables options like RPATH or environment
> variables like LD_LIBRARY_PATH for security reasons.

Now this is indeed a difficult problem. I don't know an easy solution either, but to be honest: the dlopen() approach is ugly and cumbersome, isn't it? Anything would be better than this! But even setuid processes are allowed to load libraries from the standard directories like /usr/lib, so one option would be to copy the NW RFC libs there (or create symlinks).

And I found the following very interesting & instructive article, which documents two methods that should work on Linux (not sure about the various Unixes, though):

  • Include the NW RFC lib directory in the file /etc/ld.so.conf. Then even setuid processes will find and load them!
  • Alternatively: when starting the process, make sure that the uid and effective uid (as well as gid and effective gid) are equal. (So basically root needs to become the file owner of your binary.) Then LD_LIBRARY_PATH will be used for loading shared libs, even if the process runs as root!

See the following article for the details: Library Linking and setuid executables - Kevin R Tower - UW Information Technology Wiki

Hope I was able to help a bit.

Best regards, Ulrich

Hi James

Yes, a lot of people have no idea or appreciation as to how time consuming proper security analysis and investigation can be. As it's typically undestimated you end up with a big mess and effort required to clean it up.

It's why there are a lot of nice market consultancies out there who have design and built their own security tools to facilitate this type of work

Some of your transaction codes can be reduced by checking TSTCP table to see if they are a parameter transaction. If they are for a table, the you can identified the S_TABU_NAM value easily and reduce your efforts.

HI Amarnath,

Check if "Auto Incident Creation" is active. If you wants the alerts to be create make sure you have "Auto Incident Creation" as inactive and "Automatic Alerts Creation" as active.

Hi,

you can get the hint from the error itself.. transformation is inactive, you might not captured the active version of it in previous transport request.

try to activate transformation and dtp, then transport again.
