The thing is with SAP it's no longer about what the customers "want" but what SAP thinks is best for them. And the consultant's role is usually to bring the customer back into the bosom of the "best practices" instead of encouraging heresy. 
Sorry but I really doubt you'll find some workaround other than what I've mentioned or some brutal modification.
Although even from the point of simple human logic not sure I understand why would someone want to enter into a contract with the vendor they have blocked...
