I don't see any harm in maintaining the indicator as it will have effect only going forward.

You just have to ensure, that business users understand that system will automatically adopt start date from transferring asset, and in case they need to change, they have to do it manually as and when required.

SAP delivers standard settings as blank, do to the fact that this is not a global practice to adopt dep start date from transferring asset, but allow users to decide what fits into their business process and requirement.
